The Dream You Need For The Life You Lead

Transfiguration is a fanciful story placed in the Gospel of Mark between Jesus baptism and crucifixion.  It is a hint of what is to come, yet an affirmation that our glimpses of glory should drive us right down the mountain into the valleys of the shadow of death to minister in the midst of suffering - armed with the hope or resurrection. As we enter Lent this week we do so knowing the end of the story is Easter life.

Ministry Requires Prayer

Jesus heals many and cast out demons but he needs the strength he gets from morning prayer to carry out his proclamation through the day.  We need prayer too to keep us focused on our calling and empowered to do the work of ministry.  Finally, Jesus prayer was passed on to us, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven"  May we work toward the fulfillment of this prayer.

There are voices around us and within us that are disruptive, divisive, and hurtful.  Even though we try hard to be Christian we are tempted to judgement and hate those who are different.  Jesus sets us free of these unclean spirits and makes us whole over and over again.

Calling Disciples

God is the God of second chances.  Those of us called are grateful that God sticks with us, that God is faithful even when we are not.  The key to discipleship is not our perfection but God's love for us.  No matter how many times we mess up God continues to stick with us, ever calling us to new life and faithful discipleship.
