There is a lot of anxiety in our World today.  We are constantly bombarded with divisive rhetoric and shameful lies.  It is hard to keep from staring into the pit.  Yet, we have wisdom that can refocus our attention and attitudes in ways that bring hope, assurance, and generosity of spirit.  Let us set our minds on these things.

Truth-Telling

"The tongue is evil."  "The tongue is a fire."  You can tell that James feels strongly about the way we use words and communicate with each other.  Today, many people cannot distinguish between truth and a lie.  When leaders are telling us up is down and right is left, it gets a little confusing.  James reminds us that we all have responsibility for our speech but leaders are going to be judged more harshly.

Transformation in the Desert

We all have times in our lives that feel parched and broken.  Israel recounts their hope in the words of Isaiah who speaks about their desert blooming.  We are looking for hope today also.  Our own land is one that is withering under rudderless leadership and in moral disarray.  God does promise hope in the vision of Isaiah.
