Ministry of Compassionate Care. This ministry team is made up of our Board of Deacons. Our denomination defines the ministry of deacons as one of “compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress.”
In our congregation, each deacon cares for a “flock” of people made up of members and friends of Central. This includes visits, calls, cards, and taking home communion to our homebound members. The deacons fund our prayer shawl ministry, an opportunity for those who knit and crochet to gather and create a tangible symbol of the congregation’s prayers to be given to those experiencing life transitions, such as a serious diagnosis or the loss of a loved one. The deacons also coordinate an email prayer chain ministry.
The Deacons facilitate several congregation-wide outreach events, including a “Christmas in July” event which serves the families of First Place Shelter and our yearly Christmas Project, which provides food and gifts for families in need over the holiday season.
